Bank of Ireland believes three new rules would significantly protect consumers from online fraud. First, enhanced “know your customer” obligations should be introduced for the big online platforms as categorised in the EU Digital Services Act, where advertisers seeking to target EU audiences must verify their identity using established identity frameworks. Second, the verified identity of the entity paying for the advertising should be transparently available to the public as part of the advert details. Third, recognising the increased level of harm from investment fraud, advertisers attempting to buy space using keywords such as crypto investments, high-yield investments, trading platforms, loans, financial advice, investment comparisons, or fraud recovery services should trigger automated increased due diligence checks. Our Group Chief Customer Officer, Aine McCleary, writes about this in The Irish Times. https://lnkd.in/ekjC5MtW

Our very own Elaine Mackey, Head of Product Management, Homebuying, recently, took part in the Senior Times – Mind It! podcast series to discuss the bank’s Trade Down Equity Release Mortgage option. This option allows eligible customers to borrow up to 60% of the value of their existing mortgage-free home to purchase a new property, without having to sell their current home first. Customers then have up to 12 months to sell their existing property and use the proceeds to repay the loan. Key benefits include: - Buy your new home before selling your current one. - No monthly capital or interest repayments during the loan term. - Up to 12 months to complete the sale of your existing property. - Designed for homeowners who own their current home outright and do not require a long-term mortgage on their new home. Hosted by journalist Sinead Ryan, this is an informative interview that discusses the bank’s trade down equity release mortgage option. It was a pleasure to welcome the Axis Bank team to Dublin, building on the conversations we began during our visit to India last year. We share many of the same ambitions, like delivering better outcomes for customers, credibly harnessing AI and technology to simplify banking, and building organisations that are resilient for the future. These conversations remind us that some of the best ideas emerge when we look beyond our own markets and share experiences openly

Speaking with Irish Independent, Myles O'Grady shares his views on the changing priorities in banking and the opportunities ahead. Fraud has become one of the most pressing day-to-day concerns for customers in an increasingly digital world. We have been tackling this issue head-on, campaigning for EU legislative change and investing in AI and 24/7 customer support, which have reduced attempted payment fraud and customer losses significantly. The interview also explored how Ireland is seeing the emergence of intergenerational wealth at scale, creating a major opportunity for Bank of Ireland to deepen relationships and support customers across every stage of their financial lives. Through continued investment in wealth management, technology and a more connected business model, the Bank is focussed on offering unrivalled financial choice for customers. “Some of the work that we’ve been doing, particularly over the last 12 months, has been to get a much stronger interconnection between our different businesses … we’re hard-wiring that, as part of a business model to ensure that we are really deepening and strengthening our franchise”.
